Bus passengers to join anti-terror fight
WUHAN is to recruit 1,000 bus passengers to support its counter-terrorism drive, police in the central Chinese city said yesterday.
The Hubei Province capital will ask commuters to report suspicious behavior to help ensure safety on the city’s buses, said a Wuhan police official, with each citizen in the scheme paid 50 yuan (US$8) a month.
There are also plans to install automatic warning devices on its more than 7,000 buses.
In July, a man in south China’s Guangzhou Province set a bus alight, killing two people and injuring 32 others. The same month, 32 people were injured in an arson attack on a bus in Hangzhou.
In June last year, a bus in Xiamen was set on fire, leaving 47 people dead and 34 others injured.
