Business boost set for Taiwan
CHEN Yunlin, president of the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, said over the weekend that the association will offer more support to help Taiwan businessmen weather the financial crisis.
Chen said this at a symposium on the development of Taiwan companies amid the financial crisis in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
According to the Taipei World Trade Center, the second purchase delegation from the mainland had shown intent to purchase more than US$600 million of goods - mainly food, drinks, garments and daily necessities - from Taiwan firms in the coming 12 months during a week-long visit to the island.
"Under the current circumstances, we should positively seek more cooperation to overcome the hardships," said Chiang Pin-kung, chairman of the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation.
The mainland will send the third procurement delegation to the island next month, focusing on the chemical industry, electronics and automobiles.
