Businessman shot dead in Chongqing

A MAN was shot dead early this morning in front of a residential area in Chongqing Municipality, Chongqing-based Cqnews.net reported.

The victim, a businessman surnamed Li, was a tenant in the Edinburgh residential area in Chongqing's Jiangbei District. A gunman put a gun to Li's chest, shot him twice and fled, the Website was told.

A woman screamed "my husband, my husband!" and called security to get a taxi to take the victim to a hospital. The man was shot in the chest, said a resident, who heard the shots and asked not to be identified.

Bullet holes could be seen in the windscreen of a parked white Citroen hatchback near the entrance of the compound.

Li, 44, was confirmed dead by the Chongqing Emergency Medical Center, according to the report.

Police sealed off the area and are investigating. Pathologists went to the center to perform an autopsy.
