Businessman sues over his arrest
A FORMER political adviser who was under arrest for 57 days is seeking 19.91 million yuan (US$3.04 million) compensation after being found not guilty of fraud.
Hong Kong businessman Lau Kin Sun was arrested by Guangzhou People's Procuratorate on April 7, 2003. Two companies accused Lau's company of writing 158 checks that bounced, Guangzhou Daily reported yesterday. He was freed on June 1, 2003, after his daughter posted bail.
In August 2007, Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court ruled that he was not guilty of fraud for lack of evidence. The Higher People's Court of Guangdong Province upheld the ruling in December 2010.
Lau was a member of the political advisory body of Guangdong's Dongguan City.
