Buying train tickets with bank card soon a reality
RAILWAY authority and China UnionPay signed a partership agreement yesterday that will enable passengers to buy train tickets via phone, Internet and ticket vending machines with bank cards.
The online ticket booking and payment system is on the track and will be put to use by the end of this year under the contract, said Liu Hongrun, deputy director of the finance department of the Ministry of Railways.
Liu didn't reveal more details about the plan, today's Beijing News reported.
The two parties are also working on a project to launch a new railway IC card, which will enable passengers to pay for tickets and other services on train with the card.
A pilot online ticket booking website has been opened in Shanghai during the World Expo, but was soon shut down after many complained about its instability.
Currently, travelers can only buy tickets at designated outlets with cash.
