CCTV pair questioned over claims of bribery
THE head of China Central Television’s finance and economics channel and a CCTV producer are being questioned by prosecutors in connection with bribery allegations, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
Guo Zhenxi, 49, has worked for CCTV for 22 years and has been in charge of CCTV’s advertising department and CCTV-2, the finance and economics channel, for more than eight years, according to caixin.com.
The producer was named as Tian Liwu but no further details were given.
CCTV is said to have informed its executives about the situation and has asked them not to contact Guo.
From a farmer’s family in Shandong Province, Guo began his career in television as a secretary in the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television’s office in 1990, caixin.com said. He joined CCTV’s economics department as a reporter and editor in 1992.
He became vice director of the advertising department in April, 1998 and director three years later.
He was promoted head of CCTV’s advertisements, economic and information center in July, 2005, thus becoming director of both the advertising department and CCTV-2.
He is also in charge of the annual “3.15” Consumer Rights Day show, which has named and shamed a number of prominent companies in the past and also awards the accolade of “economic person of the year” to individuals who have had a major impact on the nation’s economy.
