CFA vice chairmen face bribery charges
PROSECUTORS are ready to file bribery charges against two former vice chairmen of Chinese Football Association, Nan Yong and Yang Yimin, a sports newspaper cited a surce close to the case as saying.
The prosecutors in northeast China Tieling City have been investigating the case since, sports newspaper Titan reported today. Nan, Yang as well as former referees' director Zhang Jianqiang were arrested in last March under allegation of taking bribes and fixing games. The newspaper did not specify on Zhang's prosecution.
The three were the in the most senior postions caught in the nationwide crackdown on football corruption. Yang and Zhang were first dismissed from their jobs after they were summoned by the police for investigation into match-fixing and gamblin in last January.
The prosecutors did not say how much money was involved in the their cases. But the newspaper quoted the insider as saying Nan have received bribes exceeding 1 million yuan.
Under China's criminal law, any one who received more than 100,000 yuan in bribes could face death penalty. But the newspaper quoted an unnamed lawyer who foresaw Nan's sentence to be more than 10 years in prison.
