Caged snow leopard awaits its fate
NO decision has been made if a snow leopard captured in a northwestern village will be released into the wild, according to an animal researcher.
The big cat wandered into a village at the foot of Qilian Mountain in Zhangye City, Gansu Province, on April 29, prompting fearful villagers to seek police help.
Police shot it with a tranquilizer gun and caged it to stop it from harming people.
The snow leopard, an endangered species, was then handed to the Gansu Endangered Animal Research Center.
Li Yan, a researcher at the center, said researchers were baffled as to why it came down from the mountains.
