Campus room for teenagers to release anger, stress
A middle school in east China's Zhejiang Province has opened a so-called "stress relief room" where students can punch a rubber dummy to vent their anger and frustration, Zhejiang Daily reported.
Since it was opened three months ago, the stress relief room in the Hongtang Middle School in Ningbo City was used almost every day, said Liu Wenhua, the school's mental health instructor.
Liu told the newspaper that while girl students prefer to hug a pillow and cry to get rid of bad feelings, boy students went straight to the rubber dummy and lashed out at it as if the dummy were the persons they hated. Liu said the room proved welcome and effective.
However, some parents and educators are worried that it might have some negative effects on students, making them accustomed to using a simple but violent approach to deal with problems. They believed conversation is the preferred method to express dissatisfaction.
