Cease-fire being observed, Beijing told
SYRIAN Foreign Minister Walid Moallem said in Beijing yesterday that his country was observing the cease-fire plan laid out by Kofi Annan.
In a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Moallem said the Syrian government would "honor and implement" its commitment to withdraw the army from cities and would cooperate with UN observers.
Yang said China welcomed the "initial implementation" of the agreement and hoped Syria would fully carry out its pledge to cease fire and withdraw forces. Damascus should then "sincerely embark on a process of inclusive political dialogue and reform to bring about a just, peaceful, and appropriate resolution," he said.
