Center notes limitations in government apps
A quarter of China’s government ministries and 31 percent of provincial-level governments have developed software applications that run on smartphones or other mobile devices, according to figures released yesterday.
However, the China Software Testing Center, which operates under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that local governments at municipal and township-level were less “mobile,” with only 11 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively, having such applications.
But the center also noted that most applications were limited to providing news and basic information. About half of the ministries and two-thirds of local governments had failed to provide an inquiry service or had no interactive communication with the public via their mobile applications.
