Champions sought for Silk Road
HISTORY and archeology enthusiasts can now apply to become an ambassador to help China's joint bid with five central Asian countries to seek UNESCO cultural heritage status for the Silk Road.
Ten ambassadors are being recruited to join a 55-day journey jointly staged with more than 30 media representatives to travel the historic road, yesterday's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
Applicants can dial 021-63529999 to apply.
Those recruited will pay 290,000 yuan (US$42,463) to the organizer to cover the journey's costs.
China expects to submit the application to UNESCO next year with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The 7,000-kilometer Silk Road, mainly a trade route, extended from the Chinese cities of Luoyang and Xi'an to Europe via southern and central Asian countries.
