Changsha police offer bounty for gunman's arrest

POLICE in Changsha, capital of central Hunan Province is offering a 300,000-yuan (US$46,386) bounty for the arrest of a gunman who shot a 48-year-old man yesterday, Beijing News reported.

The victim surnamed Zhang was shot in the head and belly as soon as he got off his car in Tianxin District about 9:37am yesterday. He was saved from death in the hospital, police said.

Changsha police published the gunman's description: about 1.7 meters tall, medium weight, with splay feet and darker skin, and speaking nonstandard mandarin. They also offered a reward of 300,000 yuan for tip-offs that lead to his arrest.

Many locals believed the suspect was the same serial killer on the police most wanted list after he killed five men and wounded three in five shooting attacks in Changsha and Chongqing from April 2004 to October 2010 because his features matched the description of the serial killer published earlier.

Changsha police refused to comment on their suspicion, the newspaper said.
