Charity denies forcing civil servants to donate salary
A non-profit organization in southwest Sichuan Province denied that it forced civil servants to donate their one-month salary to charity, saying improper publicity may have led to some misunderstanding.
Panzhihua City Charity Foundation also said the official document requiring civil servants to donate one-month salary to charity was forged. A photo of this document has circulated on the Internet.
The foundation insisted that charity donation should be voluntary. "We encourage civil servants to take lead in charity donation to set a good example for ordinary people," it said. "Some officials might have misunderstood the initiative and felt being forced."
It told Xinhua News Agency that all the money will be used to help the poor and it will publish the details of its financial accounts for public scrutiny.
