Chemical factory explodes in Wuxi

A chemical factory in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province was rocked by explosions yesterday afternoon, but no casualty has been reported so far, according to China News Service.

Local residents said they heard several explosions in the factory of Quanli Chemical Industry Company at about 2pm, followed by an electric outage in blocks around it.

Some witnesses said it was welders working in the factory who accidentally set off the chemical explosions with sparks.

The factory produces cosmetics and uses silicone oil which is highly inflamable. Nearby residents were afraid that the thick smoke from the explosions might contain poisonous gas and covered their mouths and noses with wet towels.

Wuxi firefighters arrived at the scene very soon and carried out rescue operation. Environment authorities checked the air quality in the area.
