Chemical factory to be moved after leak
A CHEMICAL factory will be relocated from a residential area in Hubei Province after a poisonous gas leak sickened 26 residents, including nine children and a three-month-old baby.
The factory in Jingzhou City will be moved to an industrial park in neighboring Shashi City once the paperwork is ready, Jingzhou environment officials told Cnhubei.com.
The latest leak of a chlorine product occurred at Sancaitang Chemical Technology Co Ltd, which is meters from a community of nearly 10,000 residents, on Sunday afternoon, the report said.
The residents didn't realize they were poisoned until the next day when they developed coughs and breathing difficulties. Twenty-six people were hospitalized.
A local environmental authority investigation found that a tank with a chlorine product had overflowed.
