Chemical plant blast

AUTHORITIES said there were no casualties after an explosion in a chemical plant in east China’s Shandong Province yesterday morning. Rescuers cleared the site and ruled out the risks of another blast at the Shandong Yangmei Hengtong Chemical Industrial Co Ltd in Tancheng County, a local official said. The explosion happened about 8:20am. Witnesses spoke of a loud noise and thick black smoke. Investigation into the cause of the blast was under way, but rescuers said they had traced the blast to a pipe in the workshop.
