Chemical spill caused by overturned truck remains harmless

A truck flipped over on the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Highway at around 7:20am today, a, causing the chemical substances that it contained to be released.

The truck held 30 tons of ethylene glycol, a chemical that is, fortunately, neither explosive nor highly poisonous. The accident occurred as the truck regularly cruised along the G60 towards Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, when it suddenly flipped over as it approached the toll.

No injuries or casualties occurred. Anyhow, the truck blocked a lane and an emergency strip, causing congestions on the highway.

After the incident, public safety officers, firefighters, and highway officers arrived on scene, taking charge of cleaning up the chemicals spilled and transporting the remaining 20 tons of ethylene glycol still within the truck. The truck was pulled away from the scene. The clean-up effort is expected to last another two hours.
