Chengde education head leaps to death
THE education chief of a north China city has jumped from a hotel to his death, today's Beijing News reported.
Hu Deli, director of Chengde Education Commission in Hebei Province, jumped out of the city's Bifeng hotel around 3:30pm yesterday, according to Chengde police.
Rumors had circulated that Hu was seeing a mistress, and the Beijing News quoted sources close to him saying that Hu was being followed as he headed for the hotel.
It remains uncertain whether the death was a suicide and police are investigating, according to Chengde security bureau's vice director Wang Yujie.
A friend described Hu as a reserved man and said he appeared normal before the death. Hu worked as vice secretary-general of Chengde's Party committee before being appointed to head the education commission a year ago.
