Chickens scared to death by seismic prospecting
A chicken farmer won a five-year lawsuit against a geophysical prospecting company, which creates loud noise and scared 2,720 chickens to death, Dazhong Daily reported today.
Zhang Huicheng was paid 200,000 yuan (US$32,140) in compensation after the ruling by the Dongying City Intermediate People's Court in Shandong Province.
Zhang said he was astonished to find many chicken died on the morning of February 22, 2008. Even a lot of fish in his pond also died. He saw cracks in the walls of his chicken sheds.
Investigators said a prospecting company might have caused huge noise and land subsidence while drilling the ground nearby.
In the first trial at the Hekou District People's Court in Dongying City, the company was ordered to compensate for Zhang's economic losses. But the company appealed to the ruling. In the second trial, the intermediate court upheld the verdict.
