Chief officials sacked in fire protest probe
TWO chief officials in Yihuang County in east China's Jiangxi Province have been removed from their posts under investigation over a property row in which three men set themselves on fire.
The Jiangxi government yesterday announced the decision over Qiu Jianguo, the county's Party secretary, and Su Jianguo, head of the county, for their responsibility in the incident.
The protest came on September 10 when the three men confronted workers planning to demolish their house in Fenggang Township, Yihuang County, Fuzhou City.
Workers from the local construction department visited Zhong Rukui's residence and tried to convince the family to accept compensation.
The three - Luo Zhifeng, Ye Zhongcheng and Zhong Ruqin - carried out a threat to set themselves alight.
Ye, 79, died in hospital. The others are still being treated.
