Child kidnap gang under arrest
POLICE in Guangdong Province have arrested four men who kidnapped four children to sell them to friends.
Three of the children have been rescued but one is still missing, police say.
The three children rescued were only aged three and were found in Heyuan City. An 11-year-old surnamed Miao is still missing, Guangzhou Daily reported today.
The three, surnamed Huang, Wen and Tang are back with their families.
Reports that the children had been abducted so that their organs could be used for transplants were just rumors, Huang Jinlai, director of Yuancheng District public security bureau told a press conference yesterday.
The four kidnappers, led by Xiao Yuande, had conspired to snatch the children and sell them to friends.
Xiao and his brother Xiao Yuanfu found 2-year-old Huang at a fruit store in the Yuancheng District of Heyuan City on October 21 last year. They took Huang when his mother was busy in the shop and drove off on a motorcycle. Two other men, Zhou Zhiwen and Xie Yaojun, helped put the child into a car.
Xiao gave Huang to his wife's aunt because she wanted to adopt a grandson. He was then approached by other friends who wanted male children.
Xiao and his gang snatched Wen and Tang on February 26 and April 3 this year.
After he had been abducted Tang cried all the time and after 10 days family who had bought the child returned him to Xiao and asked for their money back - 20,000 yuan (US$2,924). In the early hours of April 29 Xiao and his brother took Tang back to the place where he had been abducted. The child was eventually found by a farmer who called the police.
Police are still searching for Miao and continuing their investigations.
