China Congratulates Gillard
CHINA yesterday congratulated the new Australian prime minister and pledged to maintain close ties.
"We congratulate Ms Julia Gillard on becoming Australian prime minister," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang told a regular briefing yesterday.
Gillard replaced Kevin Rudd as the prime minister yesterday. Qin said China appreciated Rudd's commitment to developing friendly ties after he took office in 2007.
Qin said China would like to continue to advance all-round cooperation that benefits the two peoples.
