China, Japan, South Korea leaders begin summit meeting
LEADERS of China, Japan and South Korea met today in South Korea's southern resort island of Jeju for their third trilateral summit with the aim of mapping out future cooperation in East Asia.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama attended the talks.
China expects the meeting to nail down key areas of cooperation so as to support the economic recovery and the construction of East Asian community, said Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun earlier.
Premier Wen kicked off an official visit to South Korea yesterday before attending the summit on Jeju Island.
South Korea is the first leg of Wen's Asian tour, during which he will also visit Japan, Mongolia and Myanmar.
