China Strengthens Feedstuff Regulations
CHINA'S State Council released revised rules on animal feedstuff yesterday, banning harmful materials in its production.
The new rules also prohibit farmers from using banned materials and other substances "directly or potentially harmful to human health" to feed livestock.
From May 1 next year, manufacturers will face fines of up to 10 times the value of the products involved and can be banned from the industry for 10 years. Anyone feeding harmful materials to livestock will be fined up to 100,000 yuan (US$15,750) and face criminal charges in serious cases, according to the new rules.
