China calls for an immediate cease-fire
CHINA yesterday warned of a "humanitarian disaster" in Libya and called for an immediate cease-fire in the country where the US and European nations have launched airstrikes to enforce a no-fly zone.
All parties must "immediately cease fire and resolve issues through peaceful means," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told reporters at a regular news conference in Beijing.
"The original intent of the UN Security Council resolution was to protect the security of the Libya's people. We oppose the wanton use of armed force causing even more civilian casualties and more humanitarian disasters," Jiang said. "The future of Libya should be decided by the Libyan people themselves."
