China calls for more science cooperation with Brazil
CHINA and Brazil should enhance science and technology cooperation to facilitate economic transformation and improve people's livelihoods, Chinese Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang said Friday.
Wan made the call at a China-Brazil high-level dialogue on science, technology and innovation, during which Wan also spoke highly of the achievements made by the two countries in the sector.
China is shifting to an innovation-driven growth model, which closely matches Brazil's plan to improve its industrialization level, Wan said, adding that the two sides should pool the resources for science and technology cooperation and exchange experience.
Aldo Rebelo, Brazil's minister of science, technology and innovation, said the dialogue is held at a time when new science and technology revolution is accelerating and transforming many industries.
New technologies are reshaping the economy, society and people's lives in ways never seen before, he said.
Brazil gives priority to developing science and technology cooperation with China and is willing to further enhance the interaction with the Asian country in other fields, Rebelo said.
The two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding, which aims to encourage and promote bilateral science cooperation.
Around 100 representatives from governments, science and research institutions as well as experts and entrepreneurs from both countries attended the dialogue and held discussions on new energy, agricultural technology and food security, biotechnology and information technology.
