China calls for smooth DPRK-US talks
Chinese President Xi Jinping yesterday met Chung Eui-yong, the top national security adviser to President Moon Jae-in of Republic of Korea.
Xi expressed his hope during the meeting in Beijing that there will be substantial progress in denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and normalization of relations between the parties.
Xi said China expects a smooth summit between the Democratic People鈥檚 Republic of Korea and ROK, and dialog between the DPRK and the United States.
Chung thanked China for its leading role in helping with positive changes on the Korean Peninsula, and said South Korea is willing to coordinate closely with China to maintain the current momentum on the peninsula.
As a close neighbor, China always supports DPRK and ROK in improving ties and promoting reconciliation and cooperation, Xi said.
China also supports the US and the DPRK to begin dialog and resolve their concerns through negotiation, Xi said.
He pointed out that China remains persistent in denuclearizing the peninsula and maintaining peace and stability there.
Xi called on all sides to be patient and cautious, and exercise their political wisdom to properly deal with various issues and disturbances in resuming negotiations.
