China drops in global ranking in English proficiency test by EF Education First

CHINA ranked 47th among 70 countries and regions globally that do not use English as their native languages in an English proficiency test and survey completed by a language training institute EF Education First.

And China dropped 10 places in the same survey compared to last year, the agency said.

It was the fifth year in row for China to be ranked in the lower proficiency tier since EF launched its first annual report in 2011, which aroused concern of local academics.

The institute said this year’s rankings were based on the results of a standard online test taken by 910,000 adults from the surveyed countries and regions.
