China highway landslide traps an unknown number of people, trucks
A landslide has buried at least two trucks and trapped an unknown number of people on a highway Monday morning in southern China, said local authorities.
According to a report received by local firefighters at 7:47 a.m. Monday, the landslide occurred on a section of highway near Hualei village in Guiping City, which is under the administration of Guigang City in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The landslide caused a collapse on a 100-meter section of highway, burying two trucks and blocking traffic.
Over 200 vehicles were stranded at the accident site.
The landslide had not stopped as of 11 a.m. on Monday.
Rescuers are trying to clear the road and reach the site.
Landslides have frequently been reported in Guangxi and neighboring Guangdong Province due to continuous heavy rains that started last week.
