China key driver of global meeting
CHINA has all along actively pushed forward international negotiations on climate change and made its own contribution in energy savings and emissions cuts, a senior Chinese official has said.
China, with its increasing influence and development, was playing an ever bigger role in climate change negotiations, Xie Zhenhua, vice minister at the National Development and Reform Commission, said in Copenhagen.
He said China's most important measure to boost this conference was its recent announcement of the target to reduce its carbon intensity for per unit of GDP by 40 percent to 45 percent by 2020 against the 2005 level.
He said China had set up a series of energy conservation and emissions reduction targets and had taken many measures to ensure their implementation.
