China launches safety checks after jet crash

CHINA'S civil aviation has started safety inspections of the nation's passenger airline network, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) told Xinhua today.

A Brazil-made ERJ-190 plane of Henan Airlines crashed during its landing at the forests-surrounded Lindu Airport of Yichun City late Tuesday night, killing 42 and injuring 54 passengers and the crew on board.

The CAAC has dispatched six teams to supervise the inspection work, said an official with the administration.

In an emergency meeting held on Thursday, the CAAC underscored that the inspection should focus on safety awareness, personnel quality, the implementation of regulations, safety network, aviation equipments, the quality of training and the accountability system, according to the official.
