China military told to secure data security

The Ministry of National Defense said yesterday that the military should enhance its information security following reports of US eavesdropping on close European allies.

The surveillance by the US has rung alarm bells and reminded the Chinese military to step up its information security, said ministry spokesman Yang Yujun.

When asked whether the Chinese military has been monitored, Yang said, “If the US can monitor its allies, what they can do to a non-ally country such as China can be easily imagined.”

The Chinese military has a set of strict regulations on information security, Yang said.
