China mulls border law for suspected terrorists

CHINA is considering a law amendment with aim to deny those suspected of terrorism from crossing the country's border.
According to a draft revision released Friday to solicit public opinion, border inspection authorities will have the power to deny suspected terrorists entering or leaving China.
The draft, released by the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, said that border control authorities should report to public security or state security agencies for verification once they find evidence of suspected terrorists leaving or entering the country.
Verified terrorist suspects must be detained and transferred to the police or state security agencies immediately, the draft said.
Items linked to terrorist activities found by inspection authorities must also be reported and transferred to the police or state security agencies.
People leaving or entering the border shall provide valid documents and accept inquiries, according to the draft, which said inspection authorities can ask for evidence of their activities.
To make suggestions on the draft, the public can visit www.chinalaw.gov.cn before April 23.
