China poised for manned space docking mission

THREE astronauts, including one female, have arrived at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern Gansu Province as China is poised to launch the Shenzhou-9 manned spacecraft in mid-June.

The three astronauts arrived on Saturday and have gone through required tests. It's the first time that a female Chinese astronaut will join a space mission, the Lanzhou Morning Post reported today.

Shenzhou-9 will perform China's first manned space docking mission with the orbiting Tiangong-1 space lab module, it said.

Live butterflies will also be taken into the space for scientific experiments, the report said.
