China police seize ten in transnational drug trafficking
CHINESE police have confiscated 85.2 kg of heroin trafficked from Myanmar and apprehended ten suspects involved in the case, the Ministry of Public Security said on Wednesday.
The case dates back to June when police in northwest China's Gansu Province uncovered clues pointing to a gang trafficking drugs from foreign regions to Gansu via southwest China's Yunnan Province, the ministry said in a statement.
Follow-up investigations revealed they bought the drugs in Myanmar and transferred them to Gansu for sale.
The suspects, including Ma Zhanhai, the 38-year-old alleged leader of the group, were captured in Gansu during multiple raids between Sept. 2 and 5, along with their vehicles used for transporting drugs between Gansu and Yunnan.
China has been stepping up its fight against drugs. It announced in late August that, with the help of the U.S. Drug enforcement Administration, its police had confiscated 70 kg of cocaine originating from South America.
