China reports 5 new H7N9 cases
FIVE new cases of human H7N9 avian flu were reported in Shandong, Jiangxi and Hunan provinces on Saturday, local authorities said.
A male patient, 53, from Shandong’s Laiwu City is receiving treatment in the provincial capital of Jinan.
Local health authorities have conducted investigations, risk evaluations and disinfected possible areas of transmission to prevent the virus from spreading. Two female patients aged 72 and 83 as well as a 48-year-old male have been hospitalized in Jiangxi, with the two female patients in serious condition, local health authorities said.
According to the Hunan provincial disease control and prevention center, the fifth patient, a 35-year-old male from Zhuzhou, is in serious condition. He was confirmed to have had close contact with poultry before being hospitalized.
Another two H7N9 cases were reported in Shenzhen in Guangdong Province on Friday. An H7N9 patient died in Shandong’s Rizhao on Tuesday.
China’s first H7N9 human case was reported in March 2013.
