China reports 7 new H7N9 cases
A total of seven new cases of human H7N9 avian flu were reported in Shanghai and the provinces of Shandong, Jiangxi and Hunan over the weekend, local authorities said.
A male patient, 58, is receiving treatment in Shanghai after diagnosed with bird flu on Saturday.
Another male patient, 53, from Shandong’s Laiwu City is hospitalized in the provincial capital of Jinan.
Local health authorities have conducted investigations, risk evaluations and disinfected possible areas of transmission to prevent the virus from spreading.
Three female patients aged 72, 83 and 55 as well as a 48-year-old male have been hospitalized in Jiangxi, with the three female patients in serious condition, local health authorities said.
According to the Hunan provincial disease control and prevention center, a 35-year-old male patient from Zhuzhou is in serious condition. He was confirmed to have had close contact with poultry before being hospitalized.
Another two previous cases were reported in Shenzhen in Guangdong Province on Friday. An H7N9 patient died in Shandong’s Rizhao on Tuesday.
China’s first H7N9 human case was reported in March 2013.
