China reports new flu death
CHINA recorded its second death from A/H1N1 influenza on Friday, according to a Health Ministry statement on its Website.
A 43-year-old woman, in Xining, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province, died of the flu at 2:41pm on Friday at the provincial contagious disease hospital, local health authorities said.
She was hospitalized on Tuesday for fever, coughing and sore throat, and became a confirmed case on Thursday, said hospital director Ma Rucun.
Qinghai had 791 reported cases of A/H1N1 influenza as of Friday afternoon. Of these, 669 patients have recovered.
Due to high altitude and low oxygen levels in Qinghai Province - average height is above 3,000 meters - the treatment of A/H1N1 patients with complications on the tableland is more difficult than in other regions, experts said.
China reported its first death from A/H1N1 influenza after an 18-year-old Tibetan woman died on October 4.
The Chinese mainland had reported 26,348 confirmed cases of A/H1N1 influenza as of Friday, 22,746 of which had recovered and 23 cases with heavy symptoms, 10 of which had recovered, the statement said.
