China takes off again

DOMESTIC carriers resumed most flights to Europe yesterday after the volcanic ash cloud over the continent diminished.

China Eastern Airlines reopened all flights to Europe yesterday, including Moscow, Frankfurt and Paris. It also began additional flights to Paris and Frankfurt by Airbus A346 and A343 jets.

The Shanghai-based carrier would add flights to Paris and London today, it said in an e-mailed statement.

China Eastern canceled 17 flights to Europe between April 15 and Tuesday, affecting more than 8,000 passengers.

Air China yesterday resumed all its flights to Europe. Hainan Airlines reopened flights linking Beijing with Berlin, Brussels and Budapest.

China Southern Airlines will begin flights again to European routes on Saturday.

Air France-KLM, Virgin Atlantic and Russian Airlines also resumed flights between Shanghai and Europe yesterday, while Finnair is expected to resume flights today, according to the Shanghai airport operator.
