China to complete city planning guideline in 2016
CHINA will likely complete its city planning guideline for the next five years in 2016, an official said on Saturday.
The guideline is expected to cover layouts of 108 cities across the country and will be used to direct the construction during 2016 to 2020, Yu Binyang, an official of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development said during a forum on city planning held in southwest China's Guiyang, Guizhou Province.
It will be significant to the country's urbanization process.
Given the slowing economy, China has turned to the urbanization, which usually brings about massive construction projects and new workforce moving to cities, to provide some momentum to the growth.
Urban residents account for nearly 55 percent of China's total population and policymakers expect the ratio to surpass 60 percent in 2020.
During the forum, experts said the city planning should be environmentally friendly and diversified, and local governments should stick to the it.
