THE proportion of the world's population who are Chinese fell from 22 percent to 19 percent over the past 30 years, a government official said yesterday.
China's population at the end of 2010 stood at 1.339 billion, accounting for a smaller chunk of the world total than in the early years of the reform period that began in 1978, said Li Bin, director of the State Population and Family Planning Commission, at a ceremony to commemorate World Population Day.
