China's fattest man out of danger
CHINA'S fattest man is recovering in hospital after successful treatment for a life-threatening illness in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
A metabolic disorder caused his body to discharge fluid inside his body after developing liver, kidney and heart problems, doctors with Xinqiao Hospital told today's Chongqing Evening News.
Liang, 30, who stands 158cm tall but weighed 225 kilograms before hospitalization, is still undergoing treatment and seems in good spirit, the newspaper said.
"I feel well now," he said, "and my swollen belly is starting to get smaller."
Doctors said the treatment will help Liang discharge the fluid. He is now excreting five kilograms of urine a day and has lost about 20kg of peritoneal fluid.
By yesterday he had lost 18kg and now weighs 206.5kg, the report said.
The hospital has retooled its ultrasonic equipment to scan his organs and found his liver and spleen are double the usual size.
But Liang's quick recovery indicated his organs are working well, doctors added.
Liang was sent to hospital after he lost the ability to walk in April, with his face starting to swell up. His doctor said he could die at any time from multiple organ failure.
Liang was reported to have eight meals every day before he was hospitalized, eating 500 grams of rice at each meal, but still complaining of hunger.
