China's submersible reaches 5,143-meter in its third test dive
A manned Chinese submersible reached a depth of 5,143 meters in its third test dive in eastern Pacific Ocean early this morning, setting another new record.
Jiaolong, the deep-sea submersible, started to take photos, shoot video, and make topography scan at the ocean floor for scientific research after it reached a lowest-ever depth, said the State Oceanic Administration (SOA).
On Tuesday, the submersible Jiaolong carried three people to a depth of 5,057 meters in an international area of the ocean. That means Jiaolong could reach over 70 percent of the seabed in the world.
