China’s weapons plea
CHINA is urging Japan to speed up the destruction of abandoned chemical weapons in China.
Foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said yesteray that such weapons are still a threat even though the war ended 70 years ago.
With China’s assistance, Japan has excavated and recovered about 50,000 in China and destroyed 37,825 of them in Nanjing, Shijiazhuang and Harbaling area of China’s Jilin Province, said Hua.
However, the destruction process is lagging far behind the time limit set by the two sides, she told reporters.
