Chinese aid arrives
A cargo plane arrived in Damascus yesterday carrying around 100 tons of aid from China, the country’s second batch of humanitarian aid in two days.
The shipment largely consisted of blankets, essential for the millions of displaced people to cope with the unusually cold winter.
The first batch of Chinese aid (11 tons) arrived last Friday. China has pledged to provide Syria with 20 million yuan worth (US3.3 million) of aid.
The number of Syrian refugees who have fled to neighboring countries is estimated to have exceeded 2.3 million, with 4.25 million displaced internally.
