Chinese are 8.2 years older than real age
An average Chinese is 8.2 years older than his or her real age and men are poorer in health than women. More than 90 percent of the 6,000 individuals surveyed overestimate their health conditions, according to Pingan Insurance, a major insurer in the country.
The results are drawn from 6,000 samples aged 18-64 and in 57 cities across China, Pingan said in a report released today. It said people working in IT, advertising, news media and business consulting industries scored very low in both physical and mental health. The top scorers are freelancers, educators and those in the finance industry.
Food safety is the top concern among all respondents, followed by high medical costs. About 70 percent of them say they are working under considerable pressure, while 38 percent say they are working too hard for money at the sacrifice of health.
Respondents in Jiangsu Province showed more signs of premature aging than people in other regions. Shanghai people seem to age the slowest among all the groups.
The report also showed that although people are worried about their health, only 15 percent of them do regular exercises and 26 percent of them have unhealthy eating habits.
