Chinese businessman in big philanthropy pledge
CHINA'S well-known philanthropist who has built up a fortune exceeding 5 billion yuan (US$736.79 million) has pledged to give all his properties back to the public upon his death as he deemed it "a shame to die still in possession of big assets."
Chen Guangbiao, chairman of the Jiangsu Huangpu Renewable Resources Utilization Co Ltd, made this pledge over the weekend in a public letter addressed to Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, who have scheduled to organize a charity banquet during their tour to Beijing late this month and invited Chinese rich people to join them in the charity program.
The pledge on donation, which Chen described as a gift to the two richest Americans for their upcoming China tour, was to vindicate his belief that it was noble and great to give one's fortune back to the society, Chen said in the letter released on his company's website.
The 42-year-old entrepreneur said fortune is like water to him. A person can live on a cup of water while a bucket of water is enough for one's family. But if it is a river, "one must share it with everyone else," he added.
The Jiangsu native said he will soon find a prestigious institution to have his assets notarized and announce the result to the public.
