Chinese cities on the list
FOUR Chinese cities - Chengdu, Chongqing, Suzhou and Nanjing - have made it into Forbes Magazine's list of the world's fastest-growing cities of the next decade for their economic and high-tech potential.
The list focuses on smaller but emerging urban powerhouses, possible replacements for established megacities such as New York, London and Hong Kong, considering the new urban centers' improved business environment and lower living costs, China News Service said yesterday.
Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, topped the list as a new technology startup hub, having attracted several high-tech giants such as Dell and Cisco to establish a presence there.
Chongqing came second. The United States magazine described the city as "offering a healthy alternative to coastal megacities such as Shanghai" with less congestion, lower prices and a business-friendly investment atmosphere.
Suzhou, a tourist hot spot in Jiangsu Province, is on its way to becoming an international magnet, attracting tourists with its romantic history and picturesque scenery, the magazine said.
Nanjing made the list because of its impressive economic growth.
