Chinese painting master Wu Guanzhong passes away
WU Guanzhong, the master of Chinese painting, passed away at 11:57 pm yesterday in Beijing at the age of 91.
Wu, born in 1919, is a native of Yixing, east China's Jiangsu Province. In 1946, he went to France to study Western painting. In 1950 he returned to China to teach art.
Over the past decades, Wu has been engaged in integrating Chinese ink and wash with Western painting. He is widely recognized at home and abroad as the father of modern Chinese painting which is different from traditional painting.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong announced Friday that Wu Guanzhong offered the city another donation of five ink paintings. It was his fourth donation to Hong Kong.
